Cambodian Royal Family
The present King of Cambodia His Majesty Preah Bat samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk was born in Phnom Penh on the 31st of October 1922. His parents were HM Norodom Suramarit and HM Sisowath Kossamak Nearireath. In the year 1941 the present king of Cambodia was inaugurated as the King of Cambodia and succeeded King Monivong. In in 1970 the King was toppled by Lon Nol. The king resided in Beijing and Pyongyang and spearheaded the National United front of Kampuchea (FUNK) against Lon Nol. After Khmer rouge took over Cambodia in 1975, the King arrived back to Cambodia but was under house arrest in his Royal Palace. The king became the president of the National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) in the year 1981. In the year 1991 the king comes back to Cambodia and resumes peace talks. In 1993 the King once again became the constitutional monarch. The Cambodian royal crest features the sun rays, two umbrellas, a sword, mythological lions, the Kingdom of Cambodia and the crest is in gold colour. The lions represent the Cambodian people who back the King. The sword represents the power and also the justice. The two umbrellas symbolise the king and queen. The sun rays signify the Cambodian civilisation. Of course there is much more to be told about the Cambodian Royal family where the length of this article would not permit.
